Water System Update

La Plata West Water Authority recognizes that customers are still experiencing taste and/or odor issues with their water. LPWWA remains committed to operating the Authority efficiently and responsibly. Resolving your concerns remains a top priority.

Below is an update on water quality issues and operational improvements.

Water Taste and Odor Concerns

The taste and odor issues began following extreme heat last summer, which caused unusually timed “turnover” at the source.  While turnover is a natural process, last year’s conditions created longer-lasting impacts in the distribution system.

What We’re Doing

LPWWA has taken proactive steps to improve water quality, including:

·         System flushing all areas of the water system

·         Applying targeted treatment as needed

·         Adjusting tank water levels to improve circulation and water quality

Some areas may improve more quickly than others, depending on location and water usage patterns.  LPWWA continues to monitor and adjust our approach as necessary.

Operations Update

LPWWA has strengthened our team with new and additional skilled personnel to support:

·         Water System Management-Operator in Responsible Charge

·         Routine water quality monitoring and testing-System Flushing

·         System Repairs and Maintenance-Operations Technician

·         Regulatory and Compliance Management

La Plata West Water Authority sincerely appreciates your patience as we work to improve and maintain consistent water quality and provide reliable service to our community.
